Rounding with a Number Line - Game Freebie!

Hi!

Just poppin in quick to tell you about a rounding game that I made after finding a lot of my students were have a difficult time with rounding (even in the 4th grade! Yikes!)

I would ask them questions like "What two tens is 73 in between" and I'd get blank stares.  So, I created this number line center that students could use to help them visual what rounding meant.

Take a look:

And yes...in case you're wondering - I DID play this game with myself :)  Just like I did this by myself  - That's what happens when you don't have access to students all day Monday-Friday!

Then, either as a way to introduce this concept, or as a way to assess, I've included some individual practice sheets (one for nearest tens, one for nearest hundreds).

Scoot on over to Teachers Pay Teachers or Teacher's Notebook to grab it for free!  Give it a try and tell me what you think - and of course, you can't let your students play it, you don't have to play it alone in your office like I did :)

I love this, Rachel. It is amazing how many of my 3rd & 4th graders still struggle with this. I want to print it out asap. I think the number line on the hundreds page should have 100's instead of 10's. Any chance you could fix that up?? Appreciate your generosity!!! Jenny

Hi Jenny!

I think it should be fixed and ready for printing! I tried re-uploading the revised version and it was giving me some issues, but I think it worked now - just let me know if it didn't! Thanks and enjoy!

I love this idea so much and I plan to use it right away! Most children have trouble with this concept.

I Love, love, love this center! It's just what my 2nd's need this week where the series lesson didn't provide enough concrete support or practice. I think this will do the trick. Thank you much!

:D This was perfect.. and timely for my second graders!!! Our math series only does 1 lesson on rounding yet the third grade math series starts rounding to the 10, 000 at the beginning of the year! Yikes that's a stretch! So we second grade teachers have pledged to help out kids get a better understanding of it before 3rd grade. Thankyou!
