The Sunday Save: Super Bowl Sunday Game

A week from today is Superbowl Sunday, February 3rd.

I'll be completely honest with you - I have no idea who's playing - I'm more interested in the chicken wings instead of the game  :)

BUT - I bet some of you, and many of your students are excited about the actual game - and *I* have a math game that you might get excited about, too!

I present to you this weeks "Sunday Save:"

(meaning: I'm hopefully saving you some time on Sunday when you're doing all your other planning for the week :))

Such a fun game board: the boys will love it!

Raise your hand if this has happened to you and your students:

You are walking around the classroom monitoring your students as they are taking a state test (or any test for that matter) and you KNOW you've prepared them well, BUT - you look down at little Johnny, who is working on this word problem:

Kim has 6 boxes of crayons with 8 crayons in each box.  How many does she have all together?

He reads it, sees the two numbers in the math problem and just randomly decides to add them together - "AHHH!!!  Johnny, you're supposed to multiply - not add!!"  However, at this point in the game, you're helpless because you just have to smile and encourage him to keep going!  Yikes!

I don't know about you - but I am raising both my hands quite high!  Students can answer multiplication word problems just fine during your multiplication unit - but when you mix all four operations together - they are a mess (and as a result you are a mess with frustration!!)

Enter in this fun Superbowl Football-Themed game!

Students need practicing choosing the correct math operation and this game fits the bill:

There ya go, a SAVE for the week (download at the bottom of the page)- hopefully it will help you and your students!  Have fun playing it this week to gear up for the big game next week!

Do you have any tricks/strategies to helping students pick the right operation?

I tutor a 4th grader who has dyscalculia. I am always looking for math games which are simple, but age-appropriate . This game is awesome for him! Thank you!

This is great! As the SLP in a K-5 building, I often see my kiddos confused by the vocab or wording of questions. This will be really helpful... for me too! I stink at math. ;-)
